C-Reactive Protein Levels in Chronic Congestive Heart Failure

Background: Serum concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP) are elevated in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). However, clinical data about the prognostic value of CRP levels in patients with chronic stable CHF are sparse. We hypothesized that measurement of CRP might provide prognostic information in these patients. Methods: We measured serum levels of CRP in 72 patients with chron...

C-REACTIVE PROTEIN RESPONSE IN ANGINA PECTORIS

C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.

C-reactive protein in ischaemic cardiomyopathy: assessing vascular risk in heart failure.

The paper ‘High-sensitivity C-reactive protein: potential adjunct for risk stratification in patients with stable congestive heart failure’ by Lamblin et al. clearly demonstrates the prognostic value of this measurement in patients with well-compensated heart failure due to ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Importantly, C-reactive protein did not provide significant prognostic information in the popula...

Independent prognostic value of elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in chronic heart failure.

BACKGROUND The serum concentration of C-reactive protein (CRP) is mildly elevated in patients with chronic congestive heart failure (CHF), but this level falls well within the range found in healthy subjects. Standard clinical assays for CRP lack sensitivity within the low reference range and thus cannot be used effectively for routine clinical risk prediction. Because assays for high-sensitivi...

Magnesium and C-reactive protein in heart failure: an anti-inflammatory effect of magnesium administration?

BACKGROUND Little is known about the relationship between serum magnesium (Mg) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in heart failure (HF). AIM OF THE STUDY To investigate the relationship, if any, between serum Mg and CRP in HF patients and, concomitantly, to test a hypothesis that Mg supplementation might affect serum CRP levels. METHODS Serum Mg and CRP were evaluated in 68 patients with chronic ...
